Memphis, Tennessee – Sweltering heat will blanket much of Tennessee by Wednesday, with “feels like” temperatures soaring past 100°F across Memphis, Jackson, and the broader Mid-South. Residents can expect the oppressive heat and humidity to last through late week, raising risks for heat-related illnesses and straining outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service Memphis, the daily heat index will reach or exceed 100°F from Wednesday through Sunday, July 20, across most of West Tennessee. Nighttime will bring little relief, as lows hover in the mid to upper 70s. The chance of “feels like” temps greater than 100°F climbs to 70% in Memphis by Thursday, with similar odds for Jackson, Jonesboro, and Oxford.

Roadways and outdoor venues in cities like Tupelo and Kennett could see fewer evening cool-downs, and isolated late afternoon showers or thunderstorms may offer only brief, temporary relief. Emergency management officials urge everyone to take frequent breaks in the shade, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Lightweight, light-colored clothing is recommended.

This is the first major heat wave of July, with heat risks similar to summers past. High temperatures and humidity can cause heat exhaustion or worse—especially for seniors, children, and outdoor workers.

Warnings remain in effect through Sunday, with additional advisories possible as the week unfolds.
