MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Dangerous heat will grip much of the Mid-South through Tuesday, with heat index values soaring above 110 degrees in parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and southeast Missouri. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Monday, followed by an Extreme Heat Watch into Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.

Cities including Memphis, Jonesboro, Blytheville, Clarksdale, and Dyersburg are under the warning, with the heat index expected to peak near 112. Farther west, Little Rock and surrounding counties remain under an Extreme Heat Warning until 8 p.m. Monday, with actual highs near 106. A Heat Advisory will then replace it Tuesday afternoon, keeping conditions oppressive.

The heat will make outdoor activity dangerous. Health officials urge residents to drink water frequently, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Employers are encouraged to provide shade and frequent breaks for outdoor workers.

Drivers should also take precautions—vehicles left in direct sunlight can reach deadly temperatures in minutes. Schools and youth programs are encouraged to move activities indoors where possible.

Relief is not expected until midweek, with warnings and advisories in effect through Tuesday evening.
