Memphis, Tenn. – A dangerous heat wave will grip the Mid-South Monday, with heat index values soaring as high as 108 degrees across Memphis, Jonesboro, Clarksdale, and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. CDT Monday for portions of eastern Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and western Tennessee, including Shelby, DeSoto, Craighead, and Tipton counties. Prolonged exposure could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Cities like West Memphis, Batesville, and Helena-West Helena are expected to face extreme conditions during peak afternoon hours. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and seek air-conditioned spaces.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent breaks and shaded areas for anyone working outdoors. Officials also advise checking on elderly neighbors and those without adequate cooling.
This is the fourth major heat advisory of the month in the region, marking a trend of hotter-than-average late June temperatures.
More advisories could follow if high humidity and temperatures persist into the week.
