Memphis, Tenn. – After a dry weekend, the Mid-South will see a notable shift Monday as rounds of showers return and linger through much of next week. The National Weather Service in Memphis reports multiple waves of rain from Monday through Thursday, bringing a much-needed soaking to the region but also some travel slowdowns.
According to the NWS Memphis office, precipitation chances climb sharply early Monday, with scattered showers spreading across western Tennessee, north Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas. The heaviest activity is expected Monday night into Tuesday, when some areas could receive between a half-inch and 1.25 inches of rainfall. Locally higher totals are possible where storms repeatedly pass over the same areas.
Drivers along I-40, I-55, and I-22 should anticipate periods of reduced visibility and slick roads during the morning and evening commutes through midweek. No widespread flooding is anticipated, but low-lying and urban areas could briefly pond during heavier bursts of rain.
Temperatures will trend seasonably mild through the period, with daytime highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s and lows in the 50s. Residents planning outdoor work or fall events should monitor updates and have rain gear ready.
Rain chances gradually taper by Thursday night as drier, cooler air filters in behind the system. Gardeners and outdoor crews may want to take advantage of the wet stretch to avoid irrigation needs later in the week.
