Memphis, Tenn. – A taste of early fall is arriving in the Mid-South as much cooler air settles over Tennessee next week, bringing a break from the summer heat. Afternoon highs in Memphis are expected to top out in the mid-80s, nearly 10 degrees below seasonal averages.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the cooler stretch will hold from Monday through Friday as a broad trough over the eastern United States keeps temperatures suppressed. The 6–10 day outlook from NOAA highlights much of Tennessee and the lower Mississippi Valley under a “likely below normal” temperature zone.
The cooler weather will be most noticeable during the afternoons, when highs typically climb into the mid-90s this time of year. Cities across western Tennessee, including Jackson and Dyersburg, should also feel the relief. Morning lows will dip into the mid-60s, offering comfortable starts to the day.
While no significant rain is expected during this stretch, residents should be aware that the unusual cool down may not last beyond the week. Warmer air from the Gulf could return as the pattern shifts heading into early September.
Forecast updates from the National Weather Service indicate advisories will be issued if conditions change.
