Memphis, TN – Bitterly cold air has settled over the Mid-South, with temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below normal this week. Highs today will struggle to reach 39°F under clear skies, with overnight lows plunging to 29°F.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, the week begins with dry, sunny conditions, but the cold remains persistent through midweek. Drivers, especially those on I-40 and I-55, should anticipate icy bridges and overpasses during morning and evening commutes due to subfreezing conditions overnight.

Wednesday brings a slight chance of afternoon rain showers as a weak system passes through, with highs improving to near 50°F. Rain becomes more likely Wednesday night into early Thursday, but conditions will clear for the remainder of the week. Sunny skies return Thursday and Friday, though temperatures will remain chilly, hovering around the upper 30s to low 40s.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the region will experience a brief warm-up. Highs are expected to climb into the upper 40s on Saturday, with a 20% chance of showers late in the evening. Sunday offers a greater chance of rain, with temperatures reaching 55°F before a more robust system moves in on Monday.
