Kansas City, Missouri – Dangerous heat is building across Missouri as high temperatures and oppressive humidity are forecast to push heat index values above 105°F daily through next Thursday, especially in cities like Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, and St. Joseph.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the heat index will climb to 109°F in Kansas City and 110°F in Lee’s Summit by Monday, July 21. Areas across western and central Missouri will consistently see heat indices above 100°F from Friday through next week. Overnight lows in many cities will stay above 75°F, limiting the body’s ability to cool down.

Cities including Sedalia, Moberly, and Chillicothe will also see prolonged periods of extreme heat. The combination of high humidity and temperatures near or above 95°F each day increases the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for those without air conditioning or who work outdoors.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak hours (noon–6 p.m.), stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers may open if conditions persist.

This extended heat wave is expected to last through at least Friday, July 25. Additional advisories are likely as the region endures one of its hottest stretches of the summer.
