Marshall, Missouri – Flash flooding swept across central and north-central Missouri Thursday evening, stranding drivers and threatening homes in multiple counties after thunderstorms dumped up to three inches of rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for Saline, Carroll, Chariton, Lafayette, and southeastern Ray counties until 12:15 a.m. Friday. Radar showed widespread downpours over Marshall, Higginsville, Lexington, and Carrollton, flooding small creeks, city streets, and underpasses.

In Marshall and Odessa, emergency crews responded to water covering portions of U.S. Highway 65 and Main Street, with reports of stalled vehicles near low-lying crossings. Rural roads between Concordia, Waverly, and Sweet Springs are impassable in spots. In Higginsville and Norborne, local schools and businesses are monitoring rising water near parking lots and basements.

The Weather Service warns residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to move valuables to higher ground. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains the key advice, especially after dark when flooded areas are harder to see.

Flash flood risks will persist until rainfall subsides overnight. Additional warnings or advisories could be issued if storms redevelop or rain totals increase.
