Washington, D.C. – Power outages and hazardous travel conditions are possible early Saturday as wind gusts near 50 mph sweep across the Mid-Atlantic, from the nation’s capital to the Jersey Shore.
According to the National Weather Service, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. for the D.C. metro area and until 8 a.m. for regions spanning central and southern New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. West winds between 15 and 30 mph are producing occasional gusts up to 50 mph, strong enough to knock down tree limbs and unsecured objects.
In Virginia, residents in Accomack and Northampton counties should take precautions as high-profile vehicles may be difficult to control on exposed roadways. Similar concerns are in play across Maryland’s Eastern Shore, including Cambridge, Salisbury, and Ocean City. Power crews are on alert in Baltimore, Wilmington, and Atlantic City, where isolated outages may occur.
Drivers are urged to avoid bridges and open stretches of highway when possible. Secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and holiday decorations to prevent damage or injury.
Conditions are expected to calm by mid-morning, but lingering breezes could continue through Saturday afternoon. Another advisory may be issued if gusts persist or strengthen again later in the weekend.
