Harrisburg, Pa. – Dry skies will give way to multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms across Pennsylvania and the broader Mid-Atlantic beginning Friday, with unsettled weather set to last through Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, Thursday marks the final dry day before a series of showers and storms sweep into the region starting Friday morning. Rainfall will be scattered, impacting cities from Pittsburgh and Harrisburg to Baltimore and Philadelphia, with some areas experiencing repeated showers through the weekend. Fortunately, forecasters say no river flooding is expected from this event, as rainfall amounts will generally stay below critical thresholds.
Travelers should be prepared for periods of wet roads, reduced visibility, and possible ponding on highways, especially during heavier downpours. Outdoor plans across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and northern Virginia could be disrupted. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) advises residents to slow down and allow extra time if traveling, and to keep a close eye on updated weather alerts throughout the weekend.
This stretch of wet weather marks a return to a typical July pattern after several dry days across the region. The National Weather Service will provide additional updates if rainfall totals or impacts increase.
Rain and thunderstorms are likely at times through Sunday night, with the next update expected early Friday.
