Richmond, VA – Residents in southeast Virginia are being advised to prepare for heavy rainfall over the next several days, with the highest amounts expected through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, the heaviest rain is expected across the southern portion of the Mid-Atlantic forecast area. The greatest rainfall totals are projected in southeast Virginia, which could see several inches of precipitation.
Forecasters emphasized that while no river flooding is currently predicted for the region, conditions could change depending on the track and strength of Tropical Depression 9, which continues to develop in the Atlantic. The agency noted that it is closely monitoring the storm and will update forecasts as needed.
The rainfall is expected to build gradually beginning this weekend and continue into the middle of next week. Localized flooding in low-lying areas, poor drainage zones, and along small creeks and streams remains possible, even in the absence of major river flood forecasts.
Drivers should allow extra travel time during downpours and remain alert for slick conditions, while residents in flood-prone communities are urged to stay tuned to updated alerts.
