Washington, DC – Summer heat will give way to a fall-like chill this weekend as a cold front pushes through the Mid-Atlantic. Afternoon highs that reached near 90 degrees Friday will drop into the 70s Saturday and fall into the upper 60s to mid-70s by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, the front will move across the region tonight, stalling south and west of the Blue Ridge by Saturday. This setup increases the chance of scattered showers and patchy drizzle, mainly west of the mountains, while cooler air filters into the Washington-Baltimore corridor.

Drivers should expect wet spots on I-70 and I-81 Saturday, with reduced visibility possible during periods of drizzle. East of the mountains, roads are expected to remain mostly dry but noticeably cooler by Sunday afternoon.

Residents are advised to keep jackets handy, especially for evening plans, and to monitor local conditions if traveling west toward the higher elevations. NWS officials note that a persistent easterly flow will keep cloud cover and damp conditions in place through the end of the weekend.

Cooler air is expected to stick around into early next week, with additional rain chances possible.
