ANNANDALE, VA — A thin glaze of frost sparkles on lawns and rooftops across northern Virginia this Friday morning. The air feels crisp and still — the kind that hints at winter’s slow approach even as the sun rises clear and bright.

The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory until 9 a.m., covering much of Prince William, Stafford, and Spotsylvania Counties and stretching north toward D.C. and southern Maryland. Temperatures dipped into the mid-30s under clear skies, bringing the region’s coldest morning of the season so far.

Residents should protect tender plants and outdoor plumbing, especially in rural and low-lying areas. Commuters may notice light frost on car windshields early but should enjoy a pleasant recovery later in the day. Sunshine returns quickly, lifting highs near 59°F with a light west breeze up to 20 mph.

Saturday stays calm and dry, with highs again near 60°F and clouds gradually building ahead of Sunday’s slight chance of showers. The first half of next week brings a mix of partly cloudy skies and mild 50s, but another pattern shift looms by Halloween, with cooler air and possible frost returning to the Mid-Atlantic.

To be fair, it’s typical late-October rhythm — chilly mornings, sunny middays, and subtle reminders that November’s bite isn’t far behind.

For now, it’s the kind of autumn weekend that calls for coffee on the porch, pumpkin carving, and a few extra minutes to scrape the windshield before sunrise.
