Harrisburg, PA – Winter’s grip will tighten again across the Mid-Atlantic next week as Arctic air remains locked over the region, bringing a renewed risk of snow and bitter cold from December 9 through December 15, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 Day Outlook, issued December 1.

Forecasters expect below-normal temperatures across Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia, with highs staying in the 20s and 30s and overnight lows falling into the teens. Harrisburg, Baltimore, and Charleston could see another week of frosty mornings and cold winds, while western Maryland and northern West Virginia may pick up light snow accumulations midweek.

NOAA’s forecast also calls for above-normal precipitation, especially across the Appalachian Mountains and western Pennsylvania, suggesting the potential for scattered snow showers and slick travel in higher elevations.

Meanwhile, much of the West and Southwest will experience warmer, drier weather, creating a sharp east-west contrast across the U.S. For the Mid-Atlantic, the combination of Arctic air and active weather will reinforce the region’s early start to winter.

Forecasters say the cold pattern may hold through mid-December before easing slightly near the holidays, though another surge of Arctic air could follow by late month.
