Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Scattered storms are drenching the Mid-Atlantic on Friday, bringing waves of rain that could linger through Sunday and raise the threat of flash flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service’s Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, a marginal risk (5–15% chance) for flash flooding is in effect for much of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and parts of Maryland through Sunday night. While no widespread river flooding is expected, fast rises on smaller creeks and urban drainage systems are possible, especially near intense downpours.

The heaviest rainfall is forecast to occur during slow-moving thunderstorms, particularly Saturday afternoon and evening. Cities including State College, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York City sit within the highlighted risk zone. Roads with poor drainage and construction areas may see ponding or brief closures if storms repeatedly pass through.

Residents should monitor local alerts and avoid driving through flooded roads. Keep electronic devices charged and prepare for temporary power flickers during storms.

The rain threat is expected to taper off Sunday night, but additional advisories may be issued if storms intensify or stall over metro areas.
