Baltimore, Md. – Much of Maryland, Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia will enjoy a stretch of cooler, dry weather through Tuesday, with just a slim chance of a stray shower in the mountains this afternoon. The National Weather Service said high pressure is keeping skies mostly clear and humidity low, bringing a welcome break from late-summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, the only area at risk for precipitation today will be Highland and Pendleton counties, where a brief shower could pop up Sunday afternoon. Elsewhere, residents can expect partly sunny skies and seasonably cool highs ranging from the low 70s in the mountains to the low 80s in urban areas.

Drivers heading into western Maryland or the eastern West Virginia panhandle should remain aware of isolated wet spots but otherwise will find favorable travel conditions. Winds will stay light, generally under 10 mph, with little disruption expected for outdoor plans, boating, or air travel.

The calm pattern will hold into Monday and Tuesday with passing clouds and temperatures continuing to run a few degrees below normal. Residents should take advantage of the dry stretch, as wetter and more unsettled weather may return midweek.
