PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Strong winds are expected to whip across Western Pennsylvania on Sunday, with gusts reaching 45 to 60 mph in some areas. The U.S. National Weather Service in Pittsburgh warns that these winds could cause scattered power outages, downed branches, and difficult travel conditions—especially for high-profile vehicles on I-79, I-70, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will strengthen Sunday morning, peaking in the afternoon and evening. Even outside of thunderstorms, gusts between 40 and 45 mph are likely, with higher bursts up to 60 mph during heavier showers or storms. The strongest winds are expected across Allegheny, Washington, and Westmoreland counties, with elevated chances of gusts over 30 mph continuing each day through Wednesday.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, charge electronics in case of power disruptions, and use caution while driving. While Sunday is likely the windiest day in the seven-day outlook, breezy conditions will linger into midweek before easing late Wednesday.

Warnings and advisories may be updated as the storm system moves through the region.
