Philadelphia, PA – A powerful cold front is expected to slam into the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday, potentially triggering severe thunderstorms across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, much of the region is under a Level 1 severe weather risk for June 19, with strong winds and isolated hail possible from Reading and Trenton to Wilmington and Vineland. The front arrives on the heels of sweltering heat, with highs soaring into the 90s from Philadelphia to Dover.

The clash of hot, humid air and the approaching front could bring fast-moving thunderstorms during peak travel hours Thursday evening. Towns including Allentown, Princeton, and Newton are also in the risk zone. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and stay weather-aware, especially if planning to be outdoors after 3 p.m.

Temperatures will ease slightly Friday, but scattered showers may linger as the system exits the coast. More alerts could be issued if instability increases or storms organize into lines.
