Trenton, N.J. – Strong storms could sweep across southern New Jersey and Delaware by late Friday, packing damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and pockets of large hail.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect until midnight for Delaware, far eastern Maryland, southeastern Pennsylvania, and central to southern New Jersey. Storms currently tracking through south-central Pennsylvania and Maryland are expected to intensify as they push east into a more unstable atmosphere.
Areas along and between Trenton, New Jersey, and Dover, Delaware, are at highest risk, with threats including downed trees, power outages, and localized hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter. Residents in Camden, Atlantic City, Wilmington, and along the I-95 corridor should monitor conditions closely.
Drivers should avoid travel during severe warnings, secure outdoor objects, and stay indoors if hail or high winds approach. These storms could disrupt evening plans and bring brief but dangerous weather conditions across the region.
Storm warnings may be upgraded or extended depending on how the system evolves. Stay tuned for local alerts through midnight.
