State College, Pennsylvania – Dry ground and falling water levels remain a concern across the Mid-Atlantic today, with drought conditions still covering a large portion of the region despite brief recent rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, the latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows widespread “abnormally dry” to “moderate drought” conditions stretching from Pennsylvania through Maryland and into Virginia. While parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey saw minor improvement over the past week, much of the region saw no meaningful change.

The hardest-hit areas include central and southern Pennsylvania, western Maryland, and portions of northern Virginia, where soil moisture remains below normal and streamflows are running low. In agricultural zones, early-season planting conditions may be impacted if dry weather continues.

Recent precipitation helped chip away at drought intensity in localized areas, but it has not been enough to reverse the broader deficit. Across New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, small pockets of improvement were noted, though surrounding counties remain dry.

With high pressure expected to dominate into early next week, little to no rainfall is anticipated. Residents are encouraged to conserve water where possible and monitor local advisories as conditions may worsen without sustained precipitation.
