Harrisburg, PA – Mid-Atlantic Weather Alert: The National Weather Service has released its latest 24-hour precipitation analysis for the Pennsylvania–New Jersey region, showing light rainfall across much of the Mid-Atlantic with no river flooding expected.
According to the Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, the highest rainfall totals were recorded near Gathright Dam in the James River basin, where amounts ranged from 0.75 to 1.00 inch. Additional pockets of moderate rainfall were observed north into central Pennsylvania, where totals generally fell between 0.50 and 0.75 inch.
Across New Jersey, precipitation was lighter, matching the broader regional pattern of scattered showers but limited accumulation. The NWS notes that soil moisture has remained manageable and that river levels across the Mid-Atlantic remain well below flood thresholds.
Forecasters say the rainfall was widespread but not intense, and that the event did not introduce any significant flood risk. “No river flooding is expected with this precipitation,” the agency stated in its briefing issued Thursday morning.
The rainfall map released by NWS shows a gradient of precipitation from southern Virginia into central Pennsylvania, with the heaviest bands concentrated west of the I-81 corridor. Much of New Jersey saw only light measurable precipitation.
With more seasonal temperatures settling in, the region may see additional scattered showers later in the week, but no major weather hazards are currently forecast.
Residents in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are encouraged to monitor NWS updates as the holiday travel period approaches, as conditions may shift heading into early next week.
