Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Showers and thunderstorms will move into Pennsylvania and surrounding Mid-Atlantic states Friday as a cold front pushes through the region, ending a stretch of dry weather.

According to the National Weather Service’s Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, rainfall totals are expected to remain light, with most areas seeing under an inch through Saturday morning. While thunderstorm activity may develop in localized spots, recent dry conditions mean river and stream levels are not forecast to rise significantly.

The greatest chance for precipitation stretches from western Maryland through central Pennsylvania and into southern New York, including areas like Altoona, Harrisburg, and Scranton. Rainfall intensity may vary, but no widespread flooding is expected at this time.

Drivers should prepare for wet roadways and reduced visibility during the Friday morning and afternoon hours. Lightning may also be a factor in isolated storms. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities during active weather and ensure electronics and outdoor gear are secured.

Additional rainfall is possible into Saturday morning before conditions clear behind the front. Weather alerts will be updated if the risk profile increases.
