Harrisburg, Pa. – After a parched start to August, much-needed rainfall is expected across the Mid-Atlantic tonight as scattered showers and thunderstorms move through the region. Some communities could see as much as two inches of rain, though most areas are forecast to receive less than half an inch.
According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, the storms could produce brief downpours capable of causing small rises on rivers, creeks, and tributaries. The heaviest rain is most likely to fall in parts of central Pennsylvania, Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and northern Delaware through late evening.
Drivers should be alert for ponding on roadways during heavier bursts of rain, especially along I-83, I-95, and rural secondary roads where drainage is limited. Urban areas such as Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Wilmington could experience short-lived street flooding in poor-drainage spots.
Residents are encouraged to clear storm drains, secure outdoor items, and monitor local alerts for any flood advisories. Conditions are expected to ease by early Thursday, with more seasonable weather returning later in the week.
