Washington, D.C. – A Freeze Warning has been issued for portions of the Mid-Atlantic region, including much of northern and central Virginia, effective from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington.

The warning covers Orange, Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Page, Rappahannock, Warren, and Frederick counties, where temperatures could fall to between 29 and 31 degrees before sunrise.

Meteorologists warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, flowers, and other sensitive vegetation while also posing risks to unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are advised to cover plants, wrap pipes, and allow faucets to drip to prevent freezing.

According to forecasters, this event could bring the first widespread freeze of the season for the northern Virginia Piedmont, marking the official end of the growing season across much of the Mid-Atlantic interior.

Areas near Culpeper, Front Royal, and Warrenton are expected to see the coldest readings, while urban centers such as Washington, D.C. and Baltimore may stay just above freezing.
