Harrisburg, Pa. – Locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are soaking parts of the Mid-Atlantic today, with up to 1.5 inches of rainfall possible before storms subside this evening. Another round of showers is expected to redevelop Thursday along a cold front, increasing the risk of localized flooding.
According to the US National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, an additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain may fall Thursday, especially across the Chesapeake Bay region, New Jersey, Delaware, and eastern Pennsylvania. Although widespread river flooding is not anticipated, smaller tributaries could rise quickly in already saturated areas.
In cities like Wilmington, Dover, Trenton, and Allentown, street flooding and poor drainage may disrupt evening commutes and local events. Travelers on I-95, I-76, and Route 1 should watch for reduced visibility and ponding on roads.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially in low-lying or flood-prone zones. Charge mobile devices, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and monitor local alerts for changing conditions.
Showers may taper late Thursday night, but another round of updates is expected as forecasters monitor river levels.
