State College, Pennsylvania – Rain and scattered thunderstorms will move across the Mid-Atlantic today, bringing up to 1 inch of rainfall before cooler air settles in by the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, a cold front will sweep through the region today into early Monday, triggering periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms from Pennsylvania down through Maryland and Virginia. While storms may briefly intensify, widespread flooding is not expected.

Rainfall totals will generally range from around 0.25 inches in southern Virginia to nearly 1 inch across parts of central and eastern Pennsylvania, including areas near Harrisburg and Scranton. Cities such as Baltimore and Washington, D.C., could see totals between 0.4 and 0.7 inches as the system moves through.

Drivers along major corridors including I-95, I-83, and I-76 should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavier downpours later today and into the overnight hours.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time, check drainage areas around homes, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions during thunderstorms.

Conditions turn noticeably cooler by early Monday, with temperatures returning closer to seasonal averages. Additional updates may be issued as the front exits the region.
