Richmond, Va. – After a damp start Friday morning, skies across Virginia and West Virginia will steadily brighten as the region heads into a much more pleasant weekend. Drivers and outdoor planners can expect dry conditions Saturday before another round of unsettled weather approaches by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, spotty drizzle and light rain will taper off Friday, giving way to clearing skies by evening. Sunshine and comfortable temperatures are expected to dominate Saturday across much of the region.

By Sunday, showers and isolated thunderstorms could develop, particularly in the higher terrain of western Virginia and West Virginia. Residents in the Allegheny Highlands and along the Shenandoah Valley should be prepared for passing downpours and brief travel disruptions.

River levels across the Mid-Atlantic are expected to remain steady or gradually fall through Saturday, providing no additional flood concerns. Those with weekend travel or outdoor plans are encouraged to take advantage of Saturday’s sunshine while keeping an eye on changing skies late Sunday.

More advisories may be issued if storm activity intensifies by Sunday evening.
