Harrisburg, Pa. – Heavy rain is expected to drench parts of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and the Mid-Atlantic starting Wednesday morning, bringing up to 1.65 inches of precipitation and raising the risk of localized flooding in urban and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service’s Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, an area of low pressure will move into the region early Wednesday, following the departure of a previous system. Rainfall totals from the 3-day forecast highlight 0.25 to 0.65 inches across most of Maryland and southern Pennsylvania by Wednesday evening, with heavier totals building into Friday.

The 5-day forecast shows accumulations climbing to 1.65 inches in Pittsburgh, 1.61 inches in State College, and over an inch across central Maryland, including Frederick and Hagerstown. Motorists should expect slick roads and possible ponding on highways like I-70, I-81, and I-76. Commuters in Philadelphia and Baltimore should allow extra travel time during peak rainfall hours.

Residents are urged to clear storm drains, monitor local alerts, and avoid driving through flooded roads. With ground saturation from previous rains, isolated power outages and minor stream rises are also possible.

Rain is expected to persist through Friday morning. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall rates increase or flooding becomes more widespread.
