Philadelphia, PA – Flash flooding is possible across the Mid-Atlantic today as the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal move through the region, drenching roads and low-lying areas from central New Jersey to northern Maryland.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for counties including Philadelphia, Camden, Wilmington, Dover, Trenton, and surrounding suburbs. Scattered thunderstorms could dump 2 to 5 inches of rain, especially in urban and poor drainage areas, triggering rapid flooding.

Localized downpours may quickly overwhelm roadways such as I-95, the New Jersey Turnpike, and Route 1. Creeks and small streams across Mercer, Middlesex, and Delaware Counties are also at risk. An isolated severe thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, but the main threat remains flash flooding.

Officials urge drivers to avoid water-covered roads: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods should keep phones charged, prepare for brief power outages, and monitor alerts in case of evacuation or flash flood warnings.

Rain should taper off by early evening, but saturated ground could delay runoff overnight. Additional showers and storms are likely through midweek, keeping flood risks elevated.
