Middle Atlantic Region – Snow has already piled up across large parts of the Mid-Atlantic, with up to 8 inches reported in some areas and additional snow showers expected through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center (MARFC), snowfall over the past 24 hours was widespread across the region, with the heaviest totals recorded in eastern Pennsylvania. Snowfall reports also extended into New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and northern Virginia.

The weather system responsible for the snowfall is expected to move out of the MARFC region today, but forecasters say additional lake-effect snow showers will linger through Monday, especially in areas downwind of the Great Lakes and higher elevations.

A 72-hour precipitation forecast shows light additional accumulation possible across northern and eastern portions of the Mid-Atlantic, though amounts are expected to be much lighter than what fell during the past day. Travel conditions may still be impacted at times, particularly on untreated roads and during brief heavier snow bursts.

Despite the snowfall, MARFC officials say river levels are expected to see only minor changes, with no widespread flooding concerns at this time. Snowmelt is expected to occur gradually as colder air remains in place.

Drivers are urged to continue using caution, especially during early morning and overnight hours when refreezing can create icy patches.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and updates from the National Weather Service as lake-effect snow bands can shift quickly.
