Richmond, Virginia – Scattered storms across Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware are expected to bring up to 2 inches of rain through Tuesday night, raising the risk of localized flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, rainfall totals between 1 to 2 inches are expected from the Potomac to the Delmarva Peninsula, with isolated pockets possibly exceeding 3 inches. Monday’s storms dumped more than 6 inches of rain in parts of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, triggering widespread street flooding and minor river surges.

Clark Township, New Jersey, recorded 6.69 inches, while Mountville and Watchung also saw totals above 5 inches. Emergency crews responded to flooded intersections across Middlesex and Union counties, while minor river flooding was reported along the Raritan and Rahway rivers.

Today’s storms could affect travel along I-95 and U.S. Route 13. Commuters in Richmond, Dover, and Salisbury should expect slower travel and ponding on roads during the afternoon and evening commute.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and secure outdoor items that could wash away in heavy downpours.

More showers may linger overnight. Rain chances taper by early Wednesday, but additional advisories could be issued if rainfall rates increase.
