Harrisburg, PA – Steady rainfall is moving across the Mid-Atlantic this week, bringing much-needed moisture to parts of Pennsylvania and Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, showers over the past 24 hours already dropped more than an inch of rain in several areas across Pennsylvania. Additional rounds of precipitation are expected to continue through Saturday morning, September 27.
Forecast models show widespread rainfall across Pennsylvania and Virginia, with totals of 0.5 to 1.5 inches common. However, heavier pockets may push local amounts above 2 inches, particularly in northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania. Virginia is also expected to see consistent rain that could cause minor flooding in low-lying areas and along small streams.
The wet pattern may impact commuters and weekend travelers. Drivers along major highways, including I-81 in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and I-76 in central Pennsylvania, are urged to use caution as slick roads and reduced visibility are likely.
While the rainfall could cause temporary delays, officials note it is a welcome change for regions that have been experiencing dry conditions in recent weeks. The National Weather Service will continue to update forecasts as the storm system moves through the Mid-Atlantic.
