Richmond, VA – Halloween across the Mid-Atlantic could be one of the nicest in recent memory, with mild temperatures and only a slight chance of light showers. Forecast models from the NOAA Climate Prediction Center show above-normal warmth and near-normal precipitation for Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina during the final week of October.

Daytime highs are expected to reach the upper 60s and 70s, while evening temperatures hover comfortably in the 50s — a far cry from the bone-chilling nights that sometimes arrive by Halloween. Winds may be breezy at times, especially along the coast, but skies should stay partly cloudy to mostly clear for festivities.

Parents are advised to dress children in breathable layers and ensure costumes have reflective accents for visibility. Even in mild weather, sunset comes early — around 6 p.m. in much of the region — so flashlights and glow sticks remain essential.

Communities hosting fall festivals, trunk-or-treats, or haunted walks should find conditions favorable. Meteorologists say a passing front could brush northern areas late on Halloween night, but widespread rain looks unlikely.

“Right now, we’re looking at one of those golden October evenings — comfortable, dry, and great for families,” forecasters said Friday.
