Harrisburg, PA — A wet and unsettled week continues for the northern Mid-Atlantic, with heavy rainfall expected through the next few days. The National Weather Service is warning residents in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and surrounding areas to prepare for persistent showers, especially along the I-95 corridor, before the weather turns warmer heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service’s latest forecast, the heaviest rainfall will occur through Saturday morning, with some areas seeing up to 3 inches or more. This could lead to localized flooding and hazardous driving conditions. While much of the rain will taper off by the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise, providing a much-needed break from the soggy conditions.
For areas like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, and New York City and Albany in New York, heavy rain through Friday is likely to cause disruptions in daily activities, with roadways becoming slick and visibility limited. Drivers are urged to avoid non-essential travel and use caution, especially on highways such as I-76 and I-95. Flooding could also impact low-lying areas, especially near rivers and streams.
The rain will ease up by Saturday afternoon, and temperatures will begin to climb, with highs reaching into the upper 70s and 80s across much of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. The warm, dry conditions should last through the weekend and into early next week, providing a reprieve from the persistent rainfall that’s marked much of May so far.
