Pittsburgh, Pa. – The first frost of the season will brush across the Mid-Atlantic and parts of New England late Sunday night into Monday morning, with temperatures dropping to the low 30s in some valleys. Residents in northern and western Pennsylvania, western Maryland, and parts of West Virginia are under Frost Advisories through 8 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures as low as 32 to 35 degrees are expected in valleys of Clearfield, Elk, Potter, and Somerset counties in Pennsylvania. Similar cold pockets will impact Garrett County in Maryland and Highland County, Virginia. Patchy frost is also possible across central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania, including Binghamton, Elmira, and the Catskills, where rural valleys could dip into the upper 30s.
In Pittsburgh, lows will hover near 40 degrees, but surrounding rural areas such as DuBois and Somerset will be colder, with frost more likely in sheltered spots. The National Weather Service in State College advises covering or bringing in sensitive vegetation to prevent damage.
The chill won’t be confined to Pennsylvania. Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom and New Hampshire’s northern valleys could also see frost risk by Monday night as high pressure keeps skies clear and winds calm.
Frost advisories remain in effect until mid-morning Monday, with another round of cold nights possible through midweek.
