Atlantic City, NJ – Persistent coastal flooding is impacting much of the Mid-Atlantic Thursday, with high tides and inundation threatening low-lying roads and neighborhoods from Delaware up through New Jersey, New York, and into coastal Maryland and Virginia.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect across multiple zones, with up to one foot of water expected above ground level in the most vulnerable shoreline areas. Roads in Atlantic City, Cape May, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Sandy Hook, and Ocean City could see partial closures by late morning as tides peak midday.

Beachgoers are also urged to stay out of the surf. High rip current risks are in effect through this evening for the Jersey Shore and Delaware beaches, with breaking waves between 3 and 5 feet creating life-threatening swim conditions. Lifeguards are urging caution and for swimmers to obey beach flag warnings.

Drivers are advised to avoid flood-prone roads during high tide cycles and not attempt to navigate through water-covered areas. Residents in bayside or low-lying neighborhoods should secure property and monitor water levels.

While most advisories expire by 4 or 5 p.m. Thursday, additional flooding could return during Friday’s high tides. Updated guidance is expected Friday morning.
