Marquette, MI – Bitterly cold Arctic air and lake effect snow will hit Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this weekend, creating hazardous road conditions.

The National Weather Service warns that dangerous whiteout conditions are expected from Saturday through Monday due to lake effect snow and gusting winds. Temperatures will plummet into the single digits, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Motorists traveling on U.S. 41 and other major routes should prepare for near-zero visibility and slippery roads.

According to the weather service, snow showers will intensify Saturday night, especially near Grand Marais and Munising, making travel especially risky. Drivers are urged to delay non-essential trips and carry emergency kits in case of delays. The frigid weather will persist into early next week.

Five-Day Forecast for Marquette, MI

Thursday: Highs in the mid-20s with lake effect snow developing by evening. Winds gusting to 30 mph.

Friday: Snow showers tapering late; highs near 30°F.

Saturday-Monday: Heavy snow and gusty winds, with highs around 18°F and lows near 0°F. Blowing snow will cause dangerous conditions.

Tuesday: Bitter cold continues with highs in the single digits and lingering snow showers.
