Traverse City, Mich. – Hot, humid air will set the stage for potentially dangerous storms across northern Michigan from 5 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday. While the risk is isolated, any storms that form could produce large hail, damaging winds, and brief but heavy downpours, raising safety concerns both on land and along the Great Lakes shoreline.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the highest risk zone includes Traverse City, Gaylord, Petoskey, Cadillac, and Manistee. Beaches along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron will see a moderate swim risk today, with waves reaching up to three feet on the Lake Michigan side and warm water drawing swimmers.
Beachgoers are urged to monitor changing skies, as lightning could arrive quickly this evening. Inland, drivers may encounter water-covered roads during heavy rain bursts. Power outages are possible if strong winds bring down tree limbs and lines.
Conditions will calm by daybreak Sunday, though scattered showers may linger. Another round of unsettled weather is possible later in the week.
