Grand Rapids, MI – Western Michigan drivers should brace for dense fog and afternoon rain today, followed by a sharp shift toward wintry conditions by midweek. The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in many areas, particularly along I-96.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. today, with fog expected to lift by mid-morning. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time, especially during rush hour. Afternoon rain is likely, with temperatures climbing to a mild 56 degrees before colder air arrives late Tuesday.

Tuesday night will bring a 40% chance of showers, transitioning to rain by Wednesday morning. By Wednesday night, a mix of rain and snow showers could lead to the season’s first snowfall, with temperatures plunging into the low 30s. Thursday could see additional snow accumulation, particularly in higher elevations, as the high reaches only 41 degrees.

Motorists should monitor forecasts closely and prepare for slick roadways later in the week. Those traveling on I-196 and US-131 should remain cautious as rain transitions to snow.

The five-day forecast suggests a wintry pattern setting in, with cooler temperatures and occasional rain or snow showers persisting through Friday. Stay updated by following the National Weather Service and checking local advisories regularly.
