Grand Rapids, MI – Overnight snow brought 4 to 6 inches of accumulation north of M-20 and 2 to 4 inches along the I-96 corridor, creating slick and slushy travel conditions across much of western and central Michigan, according to the National Weather Service Grand Rapids.

Reports show the heaviest snow centered around Paris (6.0″), Mount Pleasant (4.9″), and Big Rapids (4.7″), while areas farther south—such as Grand Rapids (3–4″), Lansing (1.8″), and Muskegon (1.7″)—received lighter amounts due to rain mixing with snow.

“The rain that mixed in made for slick travel conditions this morning due to slush on the roads,” forecasters said. Additional light snow showers are likely through the day as temperatures remain near freezing.

Drivers across Kent, Ottawa, and Ionia counties should use caution on I-96, U.S. 131, and M-20, where wet pavement and slush may reduce traction. Commuters are urged to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and watch for refreezing tonight as temperatures dip into the 20s.

Plow and salt crews are continuing cleanup operations this morning, especially in rural and secondary routes north of Mount Pleasant and Big Rapids.

Forecasters expect another round of light snow later in the week but no major accumulations in the immediate forecast.
