Gaylord, MI – A fresh blast of winter weather is set to sweep across northern Michigan overnight, bringing snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions through Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Winter Weather Advisory will take effect from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday, impacting counties including Emmet, Antrim, Otsego, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon, Charlevoix, Western Chippewa, and Western Mackinac.
Snow totals are expected to range from 1 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible in typical lake effect snowbelt areas such as near Whitefish Point. Gusty northwest winds reaching over 45 mph may reduce visibility and lead to tree damage, adding to the hazards.
Motorists should plan for slippery roads during both the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Rapid weather changes may occur within a few miles, especially in lake effect snow zones.
Residents are urged to slow down, use caution while driving, and stay alert for downed branches or sudden visibility drops. Snowbelt areas are especially vulnerable to quick shifts in road conditions.
For updated road and weather alerts, check with MDOT and local emergency management agencies.
