Detroit, MI – A winter storm is set to disrupt travel across Metro Detroit on Monday, bringing snow, sleet, and hazardous driving conditions. Forecasters are warning of 2-5 inches of snow accumulation, with freezing rain possible in areas south of I-96 and I-696 by Monday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin around 1 p.m., intensifying in the late afternoon and evening. Travelers should prepare for slippery roads during the evening commute and reduced visibility, especially north of Detroit. Local authorities advise drivers to slow down, allow extra time for travel, and carry an emergency kit.

Temperatures on Monday will hover near 36°F during the day before dropping to 32°F at night. South winds could gust up to 21 mph, adding to the difficulty of maintaining safe road conditions. The storm will transition to lighter snow showers overnight into Tuesday.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will remain cloudy with highs around 32°F, while Christmas Day is expected to be dry with mild temperatures near 37°F. Wednesday evening may bring a slight chance of rain, with highs climbing to 40°F by Thursday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential delays or cancellations. Keep an eye on changing conditions and plan for safer, slower travel during winter weather events.
