Michigan – Snowflakes swirl off Lake Superior this morning, and roads across Marquette County already look slick and slushy.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect early today, and a Winter Storm Watch begins later this evening through Friday evening. Moderate snowfall is possible over the Keweenaw this morning into early afternoon. Snow and freezing drizzle have created slippery travel for the morning drive.

Temperatures hover near 30 degrees in Marquette. Light snow and mist reduce visibility at times. Even minor icing can create hazardous conditions on untreated roads, especially bridges and hills.

As the day progresses, a brief lull is possible before the next round arrives. Late today into tonight, light freezing rain and drizzle may mix in before changing to wetter snow. Conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset.

By Friday, heavier mixed precipitation becomes more likely. Snow totals between 3 and 6 inches are possible through Friday evening, with ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch. That combination can weigh down tree limbs and create icy side streets.

Plan extra time if traveling on US-41. Slow down and leave room between vehicles. This is classic February Winter Weather in the Upper Peninsula.

Saturday stays cold with highs near 28 and more snow showers possible. Saturday night and Sunday remain brisk, with additional light snow chances and highs in the mid-20s.

Monday turns mostly cloudy and colder, near 19 degrees. Temperatures slowly moderate into the mid-20s Tuesday and low 30s by Wednesday. Longer-range trends hint at a warming stretch late next week, offering subtle signs of Spring Warmth returning to the U.P.

Until then, Winter Vengeance holds firm.
