Gaylord, MI – Snow showers will bring slick road conditions to Northern Michigan through Friday morning, with localized totals exceeding 7 inches near Lake Huron. Drivers on M-32 and surrounding routes are urged to use caution, as visibility may be significantly reduced during peak snowfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, lake-effect snow combined with a passing clipper system will intensify this evening, creating dangerous travel conditions. The heaviest snow is expected late tonight into early Friday, with most areas receiving 3 to 4 inches and isolated pockets of 7 inches along the Lake Huron shoreline.

Temperatures are forecast to remain in the low 20s during the day, dipping to the mid-teens overnight. Winds will shift to the southeast this afternoon before turning northeast Friday, increasing the risk of drifting snow in open areas.

Looking ahead, Friday afternoon will see lighter snowfall tapering off, followed by clearer skies Saturday. However, frigid temperatures will persist, with highs near 14°F Saturday and lows around -7°F that night. Sunday offers some relief with partly sunny skies and highs around 20°F. Snow is expected to return Monday afternoon, potentially impacting Christmas travel plans.

Residents are advised to monitor local updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm’s peak hours. Ensure vehicles are equipped with winter survival kits, and allow extra time for commutes. For road conditions, visit Michigan State Police Road Reports.
