Gaylord, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for multiple regions of Northern Michigan today, with hazardous conditions impacting travel through the evening. The National Weather Service issued the alert for areas from Emmet County south to Manistee County, covering much of Northern Lower Michigan and Eastern Upper Michigan.
According to the NWS, the advisory will last from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT today. Mixed precipitation, including snow, sleet, and light ice accumulations, is expected across these areas. Snow accumulations may range between 1 and 3 inches, with ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph, creating low visibility and dangerous driving conditions.
The hazardous conditions are anticipated to impact both morning and evening commutes, especially in areas where damage from a recent ice storm still persists. Tree limbs and power lines may be further impacted, leading to additional outages in some regions. Authorities advise drivers to slow down and use caution when traveling.
With conditions expected to worsen through the day, drivers are urged to monitor the weather closely and prepare for possible disruptions.
