Detroit, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday as lake-effect snow blankets Southeast Michigan. Drivers along major roadways, including M-59 and I-94, are urged to exercise caution due to slippery conditions and sudden reductions in visibility caused by blowing snow.
According to the National Weather Service, additional snowfall of up to two inches is expected Thursday morning, bringing total accumulations to 3-5 inches since midnight. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph are creating hazardous conditions, especially on untreated roads and bridges. Travelers should allow extra time and avoid sudden braking to stay safe.
Snow squalls are expected to diminish after sunrise, with calmer weather predicted later in the day. Thursday’s high temperature will hover around 21°F, with wind chills as low as 10°F. Friday will bring partly cloudy skies and a high of 25°F, offering some respite from the snow.
Looking ahead, a warming trend begins Saturday, with highs nearing 38°F but rain likely overnight into Sunday. By Sunday, temperatures will climb to the low 40s, although slick conditions may persist on untreated surfaces.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and plan ahead, especially during the morning hours. For current road conditions, consult the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Drive Map.
