Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan faces hazardous travel conditions today as accumulating snow and a wintry mix impact the region, including key routes like I-69 and I-75. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through late evening, warning drivers to prepare for slick roads and limited visibility.
According to the NWS, snow is expected to move west to east this morning and intensify into the afternoon. Areas like Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Flint could see 2 to 3 inches of snow, while areas closer to the Thumb region may experience higher totals. Freezing rain and sleet may develop south of I-69 during the afternoon, creating minor ice accumulation and increasing travel hazards.
Snowfall will continue through the evening commute, making untreated surfaces especially treacherous. Temperatures are expected to hover around freezing, with a wind chill near 20 degrees. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time.
Looking ahead, Christmas Eve (Tuesday) will bring mostly cloudy skies and highs near 37°F. Christmas Day on Wednesday remains dry but chilly, with highs around 36°F. Snow may return Friday evening, followed by rain chances into the weekend.
Prepare for delays, check road conditions before heading out, and stay updated with local weather forecasts for the latest developments.
