Traverse City, Mich. – Snow continues to coat highways across Northern Lower Michigan this afternoon, with up to 4 additional inches expected before 7 a.m. Sunday, creating slick travel overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday for Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena and Charlevoix counties, along with Beaver Island. Forecasters expect 2 to 4 inches of additional accumulation before the snow tapers toward daybreak.

Roads across US-31 near Petoskey and Charlevoix, I-75 around Gaylord, and M-32 and M-72 in Antrim and Otsego counties may become snow-covered and slippery, especially on bridges and untreated secondary roads. Coastal areas near Alpena and Cheboygan could see bursts of heavier snow at times.

The steadiest snowfall will continue through late evening, then gradually diminish overnight. While totals are modest, falling temperatures could allow slick spots to persist into early Sunday morning.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and use caution on rural and shaded roads. The advisory remains in place until 7 a.m. Sunday, and additional updates will be issued if snowfall intensity increases overnight.
