Grand Rapids, MI – The air feels sharp this morning across southwest Michigan, with temperatures near 4°F and a pale sun over icy rooftops. But by Tuesday, winter weather returns in full — bringing freezing drizzle, snow, and slick travel conditions across much of Lower Michigan.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, light snow will begin spreading in Tuesday morning, becoming a wintry mix by midday. Some areas could see a light glaze of ice as freezing drizzle develops, especially along and south of U.S. 131. Snow intensifies Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, with 2 to 4 inches possible toward Ludington and inland lakeshore counties.

The heaviest precipitation will fall Tuesday night, when winds increase and visibility drops. By Wednesday morning, the system transitions briefly to rain before cold air rushes back in — turning everything to snow once again by afternoon. Any wet roads will refreeze rapidly Wednesday night as temperatures fall into the teens, creating icy conditions for the Thursday commute.

Another round of light lake-effect snow could develop Thursday and linger into Friday, keeping travel slow and conditions cold. Highs through the weekend remain in the 20s, with wind chills dipping below zero at times.
