Grand Rapids, MI – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday morning for much of southwest and central Michigan, with forecasters warning of heavy snow, poor visibility, and dangerous travel, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

The alert includes a wide stretch of counties—Ottawa, Muskegon, Allegan, Kalamazoo, Van Buren, Kent, Barry, Ionia, Eaton, Ingham, and Jackson—covering major cities such as Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Holland, and Battle Creek.

Forecasters say 6 to 12 inches of snow are possible, with the highest totals expected along the Lake Michigan shoreline and through southwestern counties like Allegan, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo. Snow will begin early Saturday morning, intensifying through the afternoon and continuing into Sunday.

Officials warn that travel could become very difficult, particularly on I-94, I-96, and U.S. 131, where blowing snow and rapidly changing conditions may create whiteouts.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Even short-distance travel may become hazardous during periods of heavy snow.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as the system develops and check MDOT’s MiDrive for live road updates before traveling.
